Ratnapura
If the "Blue Belle" sapphire in the British Crown is no reference
for visiting Ratnapura, then maybe the name of King Salomon
will be, since it was he who had Ratnapura explored for rubies,
sapphires and precious stones. You can visit the sites with
open mines where Sri Lankans try their luck in looking for semi-precious
stones. In small workshops, you can see how these stones are
cut and polished, and should you wish to purchase one, confide
in us for the right stone at the right price.
The Villages
No visit to Sri Lanka is complete without a stay in a small
village or town such as Tissamaharama, where the local people
will greet you as you walk off the main road. Consult us when
you want to hire a bike for a morning or afternoon ride sampling
the local scene. |

Sea-side
resorts
Being an island, Sri Lanka is naturally a beach-holiday destination
as well. And different seaside towns offer different activities to
watch. At Weligama, you can see fisherman sitting on stilts in the
sea. At Hikkaduwa, you can see the corals in a glass-bottom boat.
At Kosgoda, you can see a turtle farm, set up to preserve this species.
And at Ambalangoda, you can see how masks are carved out of wood.

Negombo
This characteristic fishing town North of Colombo is not only a stopping
place for tourists going to and coning from the airport, but it boasts
much more. Visit the local fish market and fishing harbour and any
restaurant will prepare delicious seafood of any kind. |

Galle
This city with its fort is another must on any tour. It was the batting
ground for the Portuguese as well as the Dutch trying to maintain
their positions fighting off invaders. Walking around here is a pleasant
way to pass the morning on the way to your next destination in the
South. |

Hikkaduwa
62 miles from Colombo, Hikkaduwa is a popular beach-resort. Snorkeling
enables to see the coral formations and beautiful coloured tropical
fish. Glass bottom boats will allow tourists to look under water without
getting their feet wet! For the more adventurous, boats can be hired
to go further out into the sea. |
